Gua Sha

Gua Sha

Gua Sha is the use of friction that stretches and remodels the connective tissue. It improves blood flow and stimulates a local as well as a systemic anti-inflammatory response. It also activates metabolic activity in the organ beneath the tissue being treated.

Gua Sha is a healing technique used for pain, mobility, and inflammation. An oil or ointment is applied to the skin, then using a tool with a smooth edge, friction is applied to an area to promote circulation and release soft-tissue adhesions. Modern research shows it produces anti-inflammatory as well as immune-protective effects, and helps restore metabolic processes resulting in an immediate decrease of pain and stiffness. It feels much like deep massage and leaves some redness which disappears over several days.

Gua Sha is used for:

  • increasing mobility and reducing pain

  • treating adhesions and scar tissue

  • facial cosmetic toning
